UAE hotels generated $9.12 billion in revenue during 9M 2024, driven by 77.8% occupancy rates and an 8% rise in hotel nights,
showcasing strong tourism growth.
As the UAE’s tourism sector continues to thrive, the hospitality industry has experienced a surge in demand, generating AED33.5 billion
($9.12 billion) in revenue during the first nine months of 2024. This figure represents a 4% increase compared to the same period in
2023.
The average occupancy rate for hotels across the UAE’s seven emirates climbed to 77.8%, ranking among the highest globally. The
total number of hotel nights reached approximately 75.5 million between January and September 2024, reflecting an 8% year-on-year
growth.
These impressive achievements were highlighted during the UAE delegation’s participation in the 27th session of the Arab Ministerial
Council for Tourism, held at the League of Arab States General Secretariat in Cairo.
The UAE delegation reiterated the nation’s commitment to fostering collaborative efforts within the Arab tourism sector, emphasizing its
critical role as an economic driver and a cornerstone of sustainable development in the region. Beyond its economic impact, tourism
was also recognized as a means to enhance cultural exchange, preserve Arab heritage, and strengthen the collective identity of Arab
nations.
The session addressed key challenges facing the region’s tourism industry, including geopolitical developments, and explored strategies
to boost intra-Arab tourism. Participants reviewed ambitious plans to enhance the sector’s contribution to the GDP of Arab countries,
improve balance of payments, and increase foreign and domestic revenue streams.
Additionally, the council highlighted the tourism sector’s potential to create both direct and indirect employment opportunities and spur
urban development through the establishment of tourist and residential hubs.
Key topics on the agenda included the creation of a unified regional tourism initiative under the banner of “Arab Tourism Region,”
fostering tourism innovation, promoting smart tourism solutions, and enhancing collaboration among Arab countries to position
contemporary Arab destinations as inclusive and attractive to global travelers.
The UAE has launched several initiatives aimed at elevating its hospitality sector’s competitiveness, aligning with the objectives of the
UAE Tourism Strategy 2031, and solidifying its position as a global tourism leader.
