At the core of this project is the Municipality's commitment to transforming key urban areas into lush, vibrant
spaces. The Chorisia tree, also known as the Silk Floss Tree, is distinguished by its broad, water-storing stem
and striking flowers, making it an ideal choice for adding color and life to the cityscape. The project not only
aims to beautify the intersection but also to contribute to the city's environmental sustainability efforts.
Innovative irrigation and water drainage technologies, including automated systems and wind-resistant
spraying techniques, are being implemented to ensure efficient water use and support the growth of these
green spaces.
Pioneering Sustainability
The initiative reflects Dubai Municipality's strategic vision to expand cultivated green spaces throughout the
city. Dawoud Al Hajri, Director-General of Dubai Municipality, emphasized the significance of such
beautification projects in realizing His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's vision of making
Dubai the best city to live in. By leveraging state-of-the-art technologies and focusing on sustainability, the
Municipality aims to create a lasting environmental impact that enhances the quality of life for Dubai's
residents and visitors alike.
Expanding Green Horizons
This beautification project is a testament to Dubai's ongoing efforts to increase its green footprint. In 2023
alone, Dubai Municipality achieved a remarkable milestone by planting over 185,000 trees, thereby adding
234 hectares to the city's green area. This accomplishment is part of the broader Green Dubai initiative, which
seeks to enhance the city's green spaces and promote environmental sustainability. The introduction of
Chorisia trees at the Al Meydan and Al Khail intersection is a major step forward in this endeavor, showcasing
Dubai's commitment to creating a greener, more sustainable urban environment.
The beautification of Al Meydan and Al Khail Streets with Chorisia trees is more than just an aesthetic
upgrade; it represents Dubai's dedication to environmental stewardship and urban sustainability. By
integrating innovative design and technology, Dubai Municipality is setting a new standard for urban
beautification projects, paving the way for a greener future.
