He’ll soon be appearing in the period melodrama Fanny Lye Deliver’d, alongside Maxine Peake,
and Charles Dance’s adaptation of The Inn at the Edge of the World.
But before that, the small matter of Bamber. Fox has been careful and polite for an hour now. He’s
had his soup, and a chicken Milanese to boot. But I want to know: does he think Bamber’s
innocent or not? He puts down his cutlery, takes a breath, and recites what I’m sure is a pre-
prepared statement.
‘My line on this is that the drama follows the events that took place in 1985 and ’86 that led to the
conviction of Jeremy Bamber,’ he says, robotically. ‘Jeremy Bamber has been in prison for 33
years, with a judicial appeal turned down and another appeal turned down. However I am yet to
see any evidence that I would see warrants overturning his conviction at this point in time.’
I’ll take that as a no. No further questions.
