               Sir Neville Marriner on the 100th anniversary of his birthday.

               It was a good time for chamber orchestra formations. The Stuttgart Chamber
               Orchestra, L'Orchestre de Chambre Jean-Francois Paillard, the Zagreb Soloists, I
               Solisti Veneti, the Festival Strings Lucerne, last but not least I Musici - and yet they
               were all surpassed by the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, founded in 1959.

               Named after the London church that was the venue for the inaugural concert, initially
               consisting of freelancers and led by the founder, Neville Marriner, from the violin
               desk, the company grew not least in the course of recording - London in the 1960s,
               70s: a center of the industry! - quickly to, depending on demand, the size of a
