“What a spectacular landscape,” the passing concertgoer said, feasting in the interval on the reed
beds, wide open sky and other natural wonders surrounding the Aldeburgh Festival’s home base.
Indeed it was spectacular, though the view looked small beside the landscapes the composer
Judith Weir described in the piece heard on the interval’s other side: her festival
commission Planet, inspired by three images of Earth, deep space and the Milky Way.
