In 2015, The Queen Elizabeth, Queen Victoria and Queen Mary 2 visited
Liverpool for the 175th anniversary of the famous Cunard cruise line.
The River Mersey held a fantastic water ballet featuring the iconic cruise
ships as part of the 175-year celebrations. The Pier Head also saw land
performances and a firework ceremony with visitors travelling for miles to
enjoy the show.
At the time, thousands of people lined the coastline for the historic event
honouring the birth of Cunard in Liverpool, with the Three Queens visit also
being part of the Mersey River Festival.
From the Three Queens themselves to people watching them and more, take a
trip back in time with the photo gallery below.
On Monday, June 3, the official naming ceremony for the Cunard's newest
cruise liner, Queen Anne, will take place. Thousands of people are expected to
head down to Liverpool's Pier Head for the free event which will feature
musical performances. Queen Anne will arrive in Liverpool at around 7am
and will be berthed alongside the Cruise Terminal until around 2pm.
From 4pm the official naming ceremony will begin, being hosted by Busted
musician Matt Willis and his wife and TV presenter Emma. The line-up for the
ceremony includes performances from Andrea Bocelli, Royal Liverpool
Philharmonic Orchestra, Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, Liverpool
Theatre School and DJ Lauren Lo Sung.
They’ll be joined on stage by special guests from Cunard and the official
Godparent in the lead-up to the moment Queen Anne is officially named,
signified by the iconic smashing of a bottle of champagne against the ship.
