The Good Morning Britain commentator was scheduled to be joined by his co-
host, Jacqui Smith, for a live version of their political podcast. However, the
event came under criticism as Mr Dale was MD of the company that published
a book from Norman Bettison, an inspector in South Yorkshire Police at the
time of the 1989 Hillsborough disaster. Bettison later became Chief Constable
of Merseyside Police in 1998.
Mr Dale's publishing firm also published books by former S*n editor Kelvin
MacKenzie. The Philharmonic Hall has issued a statement to the ECHO to
confirm For the Many: Live has been cancelled.
It said: "Iain Dale’s event ‘For The Many: Live’ due to take place in the Music
Room in September has been cancelled. Liverpool Philharmonic has made the
decision that the event is not appropriate due to local sensitivities. We value
the trust and support of our community and take our responsibility to uphold
our shared values seriously."
The ECHO has reached out to Mr Dale's For The Many podcast for comment.
