People after a night of culture in our city are spoiled for choice. And there's
more to come.
Taylor Swift will bring her Eras tour to Anfield next June, while worldwide
smash hit Hamilton will arrive at the Empire in 2025. Off the back of the
success of Eurovision, Liverpool is as attractive as ever.
Away from the stage, we are blessed with several excellent art galleries on
Merseyside, all offering something different. The Tate is closing for two
years from next month, as a £30m refurbishment looks to rethink its
exhibition spaces, works to offer panoramic views of the city and uncover
more of the building’s Victorian heritage. Those involved hope it will allow the
gallery to come back better than ever.
Though there is much to celebrate, there are challenges. Nowhere is
immune from the cost of living crisis - grassroots venues more so than others.
Many Liverpool's cultural venues have been facing an uphill struggle for some
time now, fighting to stay above water and fending off threats from housing
developments. It would be fair to say that more could be done to protect the
grassroots spaces which have allowed Liverpool to develop its reputation as a
centre for culture.
That said, the city feels like it is riding high at the moment, amid plenty of
challenges. Boasting many great venues showing a range of dynamic shows,
able to attract big names while nurturing new and interesting art, Liverpool
truly is a city of culture.
