        The versatility of Britain’s orchestras never fails to amaze. Next week the Royal Liverpool

        Philharmonic (RLPO) will play a concert of songs that have won Eurovision over the decades,
        in honour of that little circus coming to town. This week they delivered something so far

        removed from Eurovision that it seemed beamed in from another galaxy.

        This was the UK premiere of Phantasma by the 45-year-old Austrian composer Bernd Richard

        Deutsch. I didn’t know his music before, but I will search for more of it now. For a start, his
