CEO of the Royal Philharmonic Society, James Murphy said in his speech: 'This is
what classical music does. It brings people together. It lifts our spirit, it raises our

pulse, it gives us hope. It brings out the best in us. From the news stories and social
media coverage of the last year, you wouldn’t always know that ... Tonight, we,

united music-makers and music-lovers, take the front foot. We get to tell the story
and set the tempo. And what stories we have to tell.'
