There is yet more success for the Royal Northern College of Music to enjoy
following a highly successful International Brass Band Festival held last
weekend in Manchester.
Several of its alumni have been shortlisted for a prestigious Royal Philharmonic
Society Award, including renowned conductor Alpesh Chauhan OBE and
vocalist/composer Alice Zawadzki.
Jo Yee Cheung's Olympias Music Foundation is also shortlisted in the Impact
category for the organisation's work championing diversity in music, whilst the
LGBTQ+ choir The Sunday Boys, a singing group founded by RNCM composition
graduate Michael Betteridge, is listed in the Inspiration Award category
(alongside Derwent Brass Band) decided by public vote.
Graduate nominations
RNCM graduates also feature in every Ensemble category including Riot
Ensemble whose founding Co Artistic Director Adam Swayne is Deputy Head of
Keyboard Studies at the College.
The Manchester Classical Festival, a collaboration between The Hallé, BBC
Philharmonic, Manchester Camerata, and RNCM alumni Manchester Collective,
is shortlisted in the Series and Events category.
RNCM Innovate Fellow Jasdeep Singh Degun has also been shortlisted in the
Instrumentalist category and for his Large-Scale Composition, 'Orpheus'.
The RNCM will also host the awards event on Tuesday 5th
March with RPS Chief Executive James Murphy stating that
'classical music pulses through the city's veins'4BR
