On stage at the Winspear Opera House, Tommy Bourgeois, a prop and
costume designer at the Dallas Opera, was looking through bags of faux
flower petals.
White, dark and light pink — the choice would be up to Laurie Feldman,
stage director for Madame Butterfly, which opens the Dallas Opera’s
mainstage season Feb. 18. “I just hope she picks the one we have enough
of,” he said.
Nearby stagehands pushed paneled images of cherry blossom trees,
calligraphy lessons and posters of the Eiffel Tower. Elaborate kimonos
hung in a dressing room backstage. A crate contained zippers, scissors and
glue guns to mend a costume in a pinch. In a green room, an employee was
calling to check in on musicians and production members traveling to
Dallas.
