Dear SCCTM Members and South Carolina Mathematics Educators,
On behalf of the 2019 SCCTM Conference Planning Committee, I want to
welcome you to the 43 Annual South Carolina Council of Teachers of
rd
Mathematics Annual Business Meeting and Conference being held this year in
Greenville, South Carolina The conference team has worked very hard to build
a program that highlights diverse opportunities for this year’s conference with a
full selection of more than 180 sessions.
Greenville, South Carolina is the place to be November 14 – 15, 2019 for inspired
mathematics professional learning and collaboration! Our planning committee has assembled a
magnificent variety of sessions and opportunities focused on NCTM’s Principles of Actions. Just
as NCTM has been encouraging us for decades to help students make connections between
mathematical topics, connections between mathematics and other disciplines, and connections
between mathematics and their everyday lives, the SCCTM Conference Planning Committee
encourages you to make connections with the many professionals who come together in
Greenville to strengthen our community of mathematics educators in the Palmetto State, and
beyond.
Keynote speakers, James Burnett, Trena Wilkerson, Bernard Frost, and Laurie Boswell,
will all bring particular expertise in developing and enhancing Professional Development and
Change by encouraging you to build your own Superpowers in Mathematics. During the
conference you will discover how to improve your connections with colleagues all year long so
that mathematical Superpowers abound across South Carolina for the ultimate benefit of our
students throughout the Palmetto State.
The SCCTM Board is excited that you are attending the conference, and after
communicating with so many of you by email, I look forward to being able to welcome you in
person. During the conference, you will learn from others as others learn from you. The ultimate
goal is to build a strong, reflective, critical, engaged community of mathematics educators who are
all willing to grow as educators, across South Carolina – including you! The SCCTM Board is excited
to welcome you to Greenville, as we share our passions and commitment to the schools,
students, and families we all serve.
Mathematically Yours, Cindy Parker
