remotely assess the vital health parameters of
the assembly, integration and testing of the
ventilators and other accessories. All the guidelines
and SOPs stipulated by the MoHFW, including
maintaining of social distance by the workforce,
are being adhered to at the work place. Around
1,000 BEL technical personnel are being trained
at the BEL Academy for Excellence (BAE) for
installation, commissioning and servicing of
the Ventilators.
Major challenges faced during the manufacturing of
these Ventilators were procurement/logistics issues
due to lockdown, travel restrictions, cross borders
being sealed etc and sourcing of critical components
through imports, forcing BEL to indigenise them,
jointly with DRDO.
Remote Health Monitoring System
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)- extraction from air, and Ultra-Violet Disinfecting
Rishikesh, in collaboration with BEL, is developing
a state-of-the-art health monitoring system to

COVID-19 suspects/patients quarantined in homes
and hospitals across the state of Uttarakhand. This
comprehensive, digital and clinically appropriate
solution aims to significantly reduce the risk of
exposure to doctors and health care workers.
As part of the system, a mobile app has been
developed for the registration of patients, health
workers and medical officers, and subsequent
use depending on their individual roles. The
system comes with wearable, non-invasive sensors
which measure and monitor critical parameters
such as temperature, SPO2 and Respiration Rate.
The sensor data, along with patient location, are
uploaded on a regular basis on to the Cloud-based
Centralised Command & Control Centre through
3G/4G. The live data is analysed by the Command
Control Centre (CCC) server for initiating necessary
action for the patient. The CCC also carries out
data analytics and provides geo-distribution of
COVID patients across the state, which helps the
administration personnel to visualise hot spots and
take necessary action.
Thermographic Camera
BEL has been supplying thermal cameras for night
surveillance to the Indian Army and the Ministry
of Home Affairs. Now, along with DRDO, BEL
has taken up the development of a thermography
feature for its Hand Held Thermal Imager (HHTI)
to temperature map a group of people using AI-
based multiple face detection model and identify
those with high temperature. This is planned to be
deployed at places like airports, which have high
footfall.
Other Initiatives
BEL is also collaborating with national R&D labs for
developing health care equipment like Contactless
IR Thermometer, O Concentrator for Oxygen

System for rapid and chemical-free disinfection in
high-risk areas.
