Fig Tree Drive takes you through the rainforest (stop at the colourful fruit stands along the road and try sweet Antiguan black pineapple)
and about half way along you’ll see a sign for Walling’s Reservoir. It’s well worth a detour to this cool, calm area; the sound of birdsong is all you’ll hear. There are picnic benches and even a grill and it’s the starting point for a number of great hikes. Open daily 8am - 5pm. There is a fee to access the picnic area and for (unassisted) hikes.
Walling’s Reservoir è un antico serbatoio per la raccolta dell’acqua piovana. Un luogo calmo, immerso nella natura, con panche da pic-nic e un grill; ottimo punto di partenza per altre bellissime escursioni. Si trova (segnalato) a
circa metà della la Fig Tree Drive, lungo la quale troverete le tipiche bancarelle di frutta con il dol- cissimo e buonissimo Antiguan Black Pineapple! Aperto tutti i giorni dalle 8:00 alle 17:00. L’accesso all’area picnic e le escursioni (non guidate) sono a pagamento.
RENDEZVOUS BAY
Drive or hike to Rendezvous Bay considered one of the best deserted beaches. By 4x4 vehicle from Falmouth leave Spring Hill Riding Club on your left. If you fancy the longer walk from Walling’s Reservoir we suggest a guided hike. And do make sure you take all you need as it is a deserted beach!
Considerata una delle più belle spiagge deserte! Si raggiunge a piedi o in 4X4 partendo da Falmouth verso Spring Hill Riding Club da lasciare sulla sinistra per proseguire sulla strada sterrata principale. Oppure a piedi dal Walling’s Reservoir (preferibilmente con un’escursione
guidata).

BERKELEY
English Harbour is one of
Antigua’s crown jewels so
it should be no surprise to
see an old fort guarding
the bay. Placed on the
peninsula on the western
entrance, the fort has been
protecting entry to the anchorage
for nearly 300 years. Today the fort is mostly in ruins but still offers stunning views of the harbour and Galleon Beach. Well worth the 10-minute walk from Nelson’s Dockyard.
Il Nelson’s Docyard è uno dei tesori di Antigua, Fort Berkeley fu eretto per proteggere questa baia. Il forte ha protetto l’ancoraggio per quasi 300 anni e anche se oggi è per lo più in rovina, fornisce ai visitatori splendide vedute del porto. Si raggiunge anche dal Nelson’s Dockyard con un breve percorso di 10 minuti.
CARPENTER’S ROCK TRAIL (2km) This moderate hike to Shirley Heights starts (or ends) at the far end of Galleon Beach, rises to ruined Fort Charlotte with its English Harbour views and continues up, giving
vistas of the rugged coastline and the Atlantic Ocean. Follow the white dots to the top. Return via the Desmond Trail or the Shirley Heights road. Carry pocketknife or pliers to remove cactus thorns which can pierce your shoe soles!
Parte dei National Parks Trail, questo percorso va da Shirley Heights all’estremità di Galleon Beach, sale verso le rovine di Fort Charlotte, con vedute su English Harbour, e continua offrendo bellissimi panorami della costa frastagliata e dell’oceano. Il sentiero è ben
tracciato da puntini bianchi. Al ritorno si può attraversare il “Desmond trail” o percorrere la strada di Shirley Heights. Necessarie scarpe da ginnastica, e un po’ di attenzione lungo il percorso
ai numerosi cactus!
