In this phase, we searched and identified the current industry standards relating to fluid change intervals in passenger car applications throughout North America for the following fluid types:
 BrakeFluids
 Power Steering Fluids
 TransmissionFluids
Manual Transmission and Transfer Case Differential Fluids
 CrankcaseMotorOils
While there is a lot of information on new oil requirements and specifications, there is very limited information in terms of industry-recognized standards for used oil change recommendations. In general, standards organizations recommend following OEM guidelines.
We have researched the following organizations regarding their standards development: Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), American Petroleum Institute (API), International Standards Organization (ISO) Department of Transportation (DOT)amongothers. Noneoftheseorganizationshavedevelopedstandardsrelatingtousedoil degradation in these applications. SAE recommended using Chek-Chart as a reference, which only provides fluid change intervals as recommended by OEMs. A summary of the results of our survey isfoundintheAppendix.
