 Speaking 3 Activities

 Teacher Instructions

This test consists of different parts:

 1. Firstly, ask the student ‘What’s your name?’ and ‘How old are you?’.

 2. Ask the student to describe four differences between the two pictures. You can give them an example -
‘Here she’s wearing a hat with cat ears, but here she’s wearing a pompom’.

 3. Tell the student the name of the story and describe the first picture, e.g. “These pictures show a story.

It’s called ‘Our Safari Trip‘. Look at the pictures first. The children are going on a trip to a safari. They’re
getting on the bus. Continue the story”.

 4. Ask the student to look at the first set of pictures. Tell them they have to choose one picture from the sets

that is different and explain why. You can do the first as an example: “Look at these pictures. In all of
them there are things from the countryside, but this is a building. This is in the city.“.

 5. Finally, ask questions about a topic (in the exam, the topics vary in the activities). E.g. “Where do you go
on holiday?”, “Do you like summer or winter?”, “What do you wear at the beach?”

Disclaimer: This resource has been made for the purpose of teaching English language learners. We know that students can be learning English in many different places, in many different ways and at age, so we try to keep these resources as general as possible.
There are many acronyms associated with English language teaching. These include (but are not limited to) ELT, TEFL, EFL, ELL, EAL and ESOL. While the term ESL may not fully represent the linguistic backgrounds of all students, it is the most widely recognised term for English language teaching globally.
Therefore, we use the term ‘ESL’ in the names of our resources to make them easy to find but they are suitable for any student learning to speak English.
