Hello there
HELLO there,
At the recent Women in Packaging breakfast (hosted by Food & Drink Business and our sister title, PKN Packaging News) BrandOpus managing director Nikki Moeschinger talked about how the fourth industrial revolution is occurring only 30 years after the third. When you consider there was 100 years between the first, second and third, it is clear the pace of change we are living with is faster than in any other era.
This is my first edition as editor of Food & Drink Business. I am so excited to be here and to tell
the stories of a sector at the forefront of so much of the change we are experiencing.
In this issue we look at the burgeoning organic and naturals markets, striving to keep ahead of consumers and competitors in an extraordinarily fast moving sector. Stories about plant- based meat start-ups increasing sales by 70 per cent in one year are testament to that. (See our story about how Australia needs to grab the opportunity to be a leader in this area on page 7.)
And of course while everything is changing, so much stays the same. Companies still need to meet regulatory requirements, turn a profit, meet customer and investor expectations, and on it goes.
At the breakfast, Moeschinger talked about how fast and unpredictable change can make us small and less bold. But it can also drive us back to our imagination and creativity to adapt to a changing landscape.
I’m still fresh-faced in the gig, but I see a sector rising to that challenge with steely determination and vibrant creativity.
KIM BERRY
