Innovation showcase
Many exhibitors headed to AUSPACK 2019 to unveil expanding product ranges – some brand new. Here are a few that caught our eye.
AUSTRALIS LAUNCHES CLEANER CONVEYOR Australis Engineering managing director Peter Gustafson headed to AUSPACK 2019 to debut and demonstrate Hygenius, the company’s new food grade conveyor.
The Hygenius has been designed to be taken apart and put back together for cleaning in under two minutes without tools, compared to up to 40 minutes for traditionally designed conveyors.
Gustafson told Food & Drink Business that while many conveyor components are hygiene certified, there were no whole conveyors in that category, and that inspired the company to design Hygenius.
It was designed using European Hygienic Engineering Design Group principles and certified components and features tool-less removal of wear strips and return rollers in preparation for washdown.
Its design also minimises surfaces, removes hidden and hard to reach crevices to reduce bacterial contamination risks and uses EHEDG approved components to achieve food grade and hygienic standards.
The Hygenius’s open frame design also has fully guarded head and tail areas for operator safety, an area that is often
overlooked in other washdown conveyors.
“We have had some incredibly positive feedback from meat, poultry and vegetable customers at AUSPACK, including comments that it was the best conveyor they had ever seen, and some rated Hygenius as the best thing they had seen at the entire exhibition,” Gustafson said.
The company plans to take Hygienius to ProPak Asia in June – the company’s first product launch at an international show.
A NEW VIEW
FROM THE CLOUD
Insignia was at AUSPACK demonstrating its new Domino Cloud ecosystem for its Ax-Series of inkjet coders which helps maintain and resolve problems using remote diagnostics.
Domino Cloud is part of the company’s SafeGuard customer service and support package, which includes event and email alerts on issues, and offers access to real-time printer and ink performance data.
Insignia’s head of sales for Domino, Blair Kietzmann, said it enables companies’ inkjet coders – which print traceability information and date codes on to products – to be connected to
the Cloud to enable a smart factory ecosystem.
“This means that we know at the same time as our customers do when their machine experiences a fault, and we are immediately reacting in real time by dialling into that machine and getting the data we need to enable a telephone fix or allow our engineers in the field to go out armed with the right information and spares to enable a first-time site-based fix,” Kietzmann said.
“It’s also allowing our customers located throughout Australia and even the world to get a snapshot of all of their machines.
“It’s really changing the way we support our customers from a reactive approach – which is

the traditional way we have been doing it – to a truly proactive approach that is keeping things running more efficiently and more reliably.”
NEW OPENINGS
FOR ZIP PAK
ITW Zip-Pak Australia, a pioneer in flexible packaging zipper features, was showcasing some of its latest resealable packaging solutions, including the wide-mouthed Zip360, a child deterrent zip, and a fragrance zip.
Zip360’s wide-mouth is enabled by a 360-degree perimeter zipper around the package, so as to provide easy access to contents.
