In another snack processing advance, Heat and Control’s new E-FLO Electroporation System replaces or reduces the need for blanching in the preparation of products prior to further processing, improving crunch, taste and texture and minimising acrylamide formation.
“The system uses Pulse Electric Field Processing (PEF) to perforate the cell walls of the potato, creating micro holes that allow asparagine, and reducing sugars to be washed out of the potato in a cold water wash,” says Marguccio. “In most cases, this eliminates or reduces the need to blanch the product.”
Ideal for potato chips, French Fries, formed potato products and other root vegetables,
the E-FLO Electroporation System also delivers higher yield and reduced processing costs, with less downtime for maintenance and longer blade life. The compact design allows easy integration into existing
or new lines.
FLEXIBLE PACKAGING
Ishida is already known for its fully integrated weighing and bagmaker combinations for
snacks, and both its entry level First Range Series and top-of-the- range Inspira – claimed to be the world’s fastest VFFS bagmaker
– were on display. The twin-tube Inspira line in particular highlighted the flexibility of the weigher/bagmaker combination, with an 18-head RV multihead
packing, sorting, case closing and taping in a single machine. “It can handle a wide variety
of bag and case sizes in both stand-up and side pack case layouts,” says Marguccio.
Bag formats include pillow, side gusset and flat bottom, at widths between 108mm and
for operator intervention, tools or change parts.
Ishida also unveiled a new weigher/bagmaker system that combines easier and safer access for operators with increased flexibility for continuous operation.
The Lift Down multihead weigher incorporates a lift system that can automatically raise and lower the weigher from its position above the bagger. This eliminates the need for a platform around the weigher base, reducing installation costs.
It also provides easier access for operators to carry out routine maintenance and adjustments.
Commenting on the success of the open house event, Marguccio says it was well received by customers and an ideal opportunity to showcase, in a live factory scenario, the wide range of leading-edge technology that customers have access to through HCI Snack Solutions’ end-to-endcapability. ✷

A key benefit of the Ishida combination solution is the company’s pioneering iTPS (integrated Total Packing System) software, which enables additional equipment, including full quality inspection (metal detection, seal testing and X-ray inspection), printing, checkweighing and case packing, to be incorporated into the solution.
As part of this, Ishida demonstrated a new fully integrated automatic case packer. The Ishida ACP-700 combines case erecting, bag
330mm. The ACP700 is available in twin configuration at factory standard centre-line of 920mm.
A large 15.3” colour HMI screen also provides easy-to- use functionality as well as intuitive operation to reduce the risk of errors, according to the company.
Case and bag sizes, together with case count and pattern configuration, are entered into the system via the HMI, which sets the various parts of the ACP to carry out the required operation. The case packer can store up to 500 presets, enabling fast and easy changeovers within three minutes, without the need
