  NOMINATE NOW
NOMINATIONS ARE OPEN FOR CAPRI-
corn members to nominate their high- performing apprentices as Capricorn Rising Stars. This is an opportunity for automotive workshops and repair cen- tres to acknowledge apprentices for their ongoing effort and hard work.
Capricorn CEO, David Fraser said that the Capricorn Rising Stars program is an important program to help address the shortage of qualified repairers.
“Encouraging and acknowledging fu- ture leaders is an important part of growing and supporting the automotive
industry. We at Capricorn wish to help members strengthen their teams and be- lieve recognition and reward will help businesses attract and retain the best talent.” Fraser said.
The award acknowledges apprentices with a passion for automotive work, a positive can-do attitude, and a strong commitment to forging a long career as a repairer. The competition is open to all types of workshops and disciplines.
Every apprentice nominated will ben- efit by receiving a certificate sent to their workshop. More than $20,000 in
cash and prizes is up for grabs. The win- ning apprentice will score $5000 to help support them in their apprenticeship. The Top 5 finalists (including the overall winner) will receive $1000 cash, a $1000 Repco voucher and tickets to two Repco Masterclasses.
The nominating workshop of the over- all winner will receive The Workshop Whisperer Service Advisor Pro online training (valued at $3000)
Capricorn Members should nominate their star apprentices at cap.coop/stars. Entries close 30 April 2022.
                 ACM’S NEW VICTORIAN CENTRE
ACM AUTO PARTS (ACM) HAS EXECUTED
a lease for a parts distribution centre lo- cated at 880 Cooper Street in Somerton, Victoria.
With over 19,500 m2 of undercover warehouse capacity, this new facility will allow the consolidation and expan- sion of ACM’s two current Victorian dis- tribution centres which have a com- bined total of 8 800 m2 undercover capacity. The operationalisation of the Somerton site allows a significant ex- pansion of ACM’s national parts distri- bution network capacity.
Previously used as a spare parts distri- bution facility, the site is already equipped with over 5 000 m2 of hard- stand and fit-for-purpose access. It is strategically positioned to provide access to key transport infrastructure including the Western Ring Road, Tullamarine Freeway and the Hume Highway inter- change, as well as the planned North East Link. The site also has significant solar generation capabilities.
This project will support ACM in making a transformative change to bet- ter serve the needs of its collision and
mechanical repair customers through increased distribution footprint and parts availability. The scale of the Somerton centre will allow substantial capacity for growth in the supply of parts and consumable products to ACM’s national customer base.
As Australia’s largest dismantler of end-of-life vehicles, this facility will al- low ACM to hold a greater range of re- cycled collision and mechanical parts.
ACM intends to be fully operational from the new site from mid-calendar year 2022.
