A HERBAL REMEDY
Focus is one a new breed of all-natural, brain and body- boosting functional beverages. Its Australian maker Herbal Fix combines organic herbs, vitamins and minerals that enhance mental and physical functioning.
Free from artificial ingredients and processed sugars, the range comes in six fruit flavours, one for each health issue it addresses.
Herbal Fix’s passionfruit- flavoured Focus beverage, for instance, targets mental functioning with a combination of ingredients to nourish the brain, increase oxygen flow, reduce fatigue, and improve memory and concentration.
Focus comes in guarana and banana flavour and aims to help stimulate vitality, improve endurance and reduce fatigue.
The other four beverages in the Herbal Fix range are mango Beauty, peach Shape, cherry Relax and dragonfruit-and- strawberry Love.
Business is brewing
The fermentation craze has brought new energy to the carbonated beverage shelf. Kasey Clark takes a look at what’s inside two of the latest offerings.
KOMBUCHA is a slowly fermented probiotic tea that’s been activated with the addition of a culture known as SCOBY (symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast). When fermentation is complete, manufacturers can then flavour the drink with natural fruits, roots, and spices.
As a functional beverage, kombucha claims to improve digestion and gut health, increase energy and nutrient absorption, provide immune- system support, reduce inflammation, and aid in muscle recovery. These two companies are capitalising on the benefits with their own kombucha brews.
COOL COOL BEVERAGES
Melbourne-based Cool Cool Beverages manufactures ready-to-drink Liberty Kombucha. This range of sparkling fermented teas aims to provide energy, healing, and functional support and has less than 1.5g of sugar per bottle. The company makes the teas from organic ingredients and
pure, filtered water. The Cool Cool Beverages team brews and bottles the product by hand. Liberty Kombuchas are free of additives and preservatives. They come in a range of flavours, such as original, lemon & coconut, Kakadu plum & ginger, and pomegranate.
MOJO BEVERAGES
MOJO Beverages is an Australian family business that produces raw and organic drinks. The company’s functional beverages target consumers looking for refreshing, lower-sugar alternatives to traditional soft drinks, sports-recovery drinks, or alcoholic
beverages. The company handcrafts a number of certified-organic sparkling probiotic drink ranges, including MOJO Classic Kombucha and MOJO Crafted Kombucha. The Classic range
comes in several flavours, including Strawberry Hibiscus, Perfect Passionfruit, Blueberry & Ginger Bliss, and Lemon Citrus.
The company developed its Crafted range in response to customers who still want the health benefits of kombucha but find the fermented notes of conventional kombucha a bit too much.
Crafted Kombucha also contains only 1.9g sugar per 100ml, meeting the low-sugar standard. (Classic Kombucha contains up to 2.9g per 100ml.)
This range comes in five flavours: Strawberry
Hibiscus, Passionfruit, Blueberry with Ginger,
Ginger, and Turmeric
