PNEUMATIC
SOLUTIONS
COLLABORATION
AUSTRALIAN packaging equipment supplier Fibre King is offering its customers solutions that draw on the expertise and R&D of automation solutions supplier SMC to improve and monitor energy use.
Compressed air use and pneumatics in general is one of the biggest culprits in energy inefficiencies and this often means fitting each machine with digital flow switches that measure the amount of air expelled.
“PFM flow switches from SMC are used on our machines to monitor air flow and energy changes. Changes will be flagged as readings change, and it will also show the differences in air usage with pressure changes. This saving translates directly into cost savings for our customers,” Fibre King managing director James Windsor says.
Another SMC product Fibre King recommends to customers is the ALDS (Automatic Leak Detection System), that can detect leaks anywhere on a system.
In addition to pneumatics, SMC develops and offers a range of automation solutions including refrigerated air dryers. Recognising the importance of dry air in factories, SMC’s range is designed as a cost-effective means of providing air with pressure dew points of 37 to 50°F (3 to 10°C). With compact construction, stainless-steel heat exchangers, Montreal Protocol- compliant refrigerants and low pressure drops, SMC refrigerated air dryers come in a range of sizes.

NEW GENERATION OF HYDRAULIC HOSES
GATES Industrial has
launched a new
hydraulic hose range
called the Gates MXT
that is lighter in weight
and offers a more
flexible solution. The
new line is designed to meet
a wide range of industry standards and addresses both replacement market and original equipment manufacturer needs. The MXT range is designed for applications across industries such as agriculture and other end-markets with demanding performance requirement.
“Our customers have been telling us they want lighter, more flexible and easier-to-handle products that address multiple industry standards. They are seeking to enhance the performance of their machines, simplify their engineering processes, improve operational efficiencies and streamline inventory with a simplified selection of replacement products that can be used on virtually any original equipment platform,” Gates Industrial CMO and SVP of Product Line Management Tom Pitstick says.
“MXT delivers on these needs and adds value to our customers beyond just premium product performance.”
The Gates MXT is the latest addition to the Gates MegaSys product portfolio, a complete hydraulic hose and coupling system that is available now in Australia and New Zealand.
INDUCTION SEALING SOLUTIONS
PILLAR
Technologies, which specialises in
induction sealing technology for the packaging industry,
has just opened offices in Melbourne and Sydney.
Induction sealing enables businesses to make their products tamper proof via an inner seal that is found under the lid and adhered to a product using an electromagnetic current. Used in a number of industries including dairy, beverage, cosmetic, industrial and pharmaceutical, induction seals also help prevent spillage during production and transport and have been known to improve the shelf life of products.
Pillar Induction Sealers can be added to production lines, with products ranging from portable handheld sealers to larger units with conveyors. Pillar coils, including the Pillar Infinity Coil, make the sealers easy to use with openings of all sizes.
The range of sealers and parts available in Australia include the iFoiler induction sealer, the Pillar Infinity channel coil and a handheld cap sealer.
Pillar says new technology is being added to the range with the development of a new line underway for launch before the end of the financial year.
HIGH-SPEED CODING
TECHNOLOGY
AUSTRALIAN-BASED processing and packaging equipment provider tna is introducing intelli-date 5, a new high-speed integrated print code verification technology for flexible bags.
As a part of tna’s performance 5.0 ultra-high speed production concept, the intelli-date 5 is a high-speed thermal transfer overprint (TTO) date coder with airless design and integrated print code verification technology.
Designed for continuous high- quality printing on flexible bags, the intelli-date 5 features an ultra-fast printhead movement that is able to increase throughput by up to 25 per cent compared to previous models.
Equipped with intelligent motion technology and a twin-belt electronic printhead, the tna intelli-date 5 does not require compressed air and provides more precise printhead pressure for consistently high-quality prints.
“Date coders are ideal for a wide range of flexible packaging applications,” tna product marketing manager Anurag Mitra says. “They’re incredibly versatile and can be used to meet a number of regulatory demands, including ingredient lists, nutrition statements, traceability information or use-by dates.”
“Whatever the application, accuracy and consistency are key to ensure compliancy and avoid products being rejected. Our new tna intelli-date 5 date coder is the ideal solution for any food manufacturer who requires codes to be printed correctly, accurately and at high- speed, time after time,” Mitra says.
