EMERGING LEADER OF THE YEAR CHARLES DANGIBEAUD
 SPONSORED BY VISTAR MEDIA
Charles Dangibeaud, product director at GroupM, was named the Emerging Leader of the Year.
The judges said: "Charles' sus- tainability initiative is a differenti- ator as a leader, in addition to his broader contribution to knowledge sharing in the industry."
Originally from the UK and starting his advertising career in London, since moving to Australia in 2015 and creating a life in Melbourne, Dangibeaud has estab- lished himself as a changemaker in the Australian media industry.
His day-to-day responsibilities include running a portfolio of over 10 media products and tech plat- forms across multiple business units, covering Programmatic Media, Inf luencer Marketing, Digital OOH and Sustainability.
His most notable achievement is being architect of the GroupM Digital Sustainability Initiative
(DSI) in 2022, part of GroupM Alpha, which is recognised as the first major Australian media decar- bonisation program offered by an agency holding group in APAC.
Australia, like the rest of the world, is facing serious conse- quences related to climate change. Evidence-based research has high- lighted that digital media is a major contributor to global carbon emis- sions, with WPP estimating that 55% of their emissions come from the media supply chain.
Dangibeaud saw the confront- ing carbon emissions across the industry as an opportunity to show- case the positive commitment the digital media industry could make towards solving the problem and supporting local communities.
With the full backing and collab- oration of GroupM’s executive team, Dangibeaud brought Good-Loop’s ‘Green Ad Tag’ technology to the Australian market for the first time.
Now advertisers have an easy to implement carbon emission measurement and offsetting solu- tion as a standard across digital display and video campaigns
As part of the initiative, Dangibeaud co-presented a national roadshow with GroupM CEO Aimee Buchanan to over 1,000 staff and 50 clients in two weeks and was instrumental in helping bring Volvo, NAB and Foxtel on board as launch partners for the program.
Within three months of launch, digital sustainability initiative (DSI) is to be applied to programmatic campaigns across over 100 clients and expected to help measure and offset about 4,000 tons of carbon within the first 12 months.
DSI is one of the most signifi- cant innovations launched by GroupM in recent years.
Commercial director at GroupM, Sharon Zhang, said: “Charles’ professional achieve- ments and positive influence on the teams he leads and collaborate with are testimony to the lasting impact he has already had on the industry.
“He strives to invigorate his day-to-day work managing cutting edge media products, alongside the complex issues and opportuni- ties the industry will face in com- ing decades.
“Charles’ deep knowledge and understanding of media and how to solve marketers’ challenges has established him as an expert and mentor to others across the group, driving thought leadership and being a key support in several pitches since he joined his role 12 months ago.
“With his global background, Charles will continue to develop solutions that improve the ways we think and shape the future of the media industry both in Australia and globally.”
