Next generation technician
IT IS ALWAYS ENLIGHTENING
TO TALK TO END
USERS OUT THERE WORKING IN THE INDUSTRY FROM
ONE DAY TO THE NEXT.
Sandra Van Dijk – Editor
IT’S THE ONLY way to find out what keeps them awake at night.
And every year at CCN Live I get an opportunity to do this and our 2019 event was no exception.
Every year the feedback is different.
The top three issues often change or they may disappear one year and return the next.
There is one issue that never goes away, it is a problem that is never resolved. It’s the ongoing (and neverending) skills shortage.
Finding refrigeration and air conditioning tech- nicians is always a challenge.
Finding outstanding technicians and keeping them, well that’s even harder.
As a magazine editor I do not have the skills to go out there and train a new generation of techni- cians. But what I can do is raise the issue and do it often (and as loudly as I can) within these pages.
I can stay abreast of the latest government initi-
atives and report on what is being done (or not be- ing done) and I can create a forum for industry to come together and make a difference.
CCN Live has been successful because it cele- brates industry excellence via the HVACR Leader- ship Awards.
High achievers should be celebrated, they are our best advocates and the way forward for indus- try to overcome the current skills crisis.
And that’s exactly what we shall do via the Next- Gen Program which will be formally launched lat- er this month.
Obviously I cannot reveal details of this pro- gram prior to its launch but CCN has some big an- nouncements planned for 2020 and in coming weeks so stay tuned.
Until then I would like to thank everyone who attended CCN Live 2019 and congratulations to all our award winners. Enjoy 20 pages of coverage from the half day event in this issue.
And finally thank you to our incredible sponsors ABB, Daikin, Kirby HVACR, Mitsubishi Heavy In- dustries Air Conditioners Australia, Panasonic Air Conditioning, Refrigerant Reclaim Australia, Toshiba and Refrigerant Australia.
Happy reading!
