   • Ensure you have been trained in the cor- rect processes when using cutting equip- ment.
PINCH POINTS
Always assess the equipment and surround- ing area you are commencing work in to en- sure you avoid hazards. Remove the hazards prior to commencing the work.
HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES
Personal protective equipment (PPE) only works when you are using the correct PPE for the task at hand. A regular review of your PPE policy is a method of reducing the num- ber of hand injuries.
• Wear the appropriate PPE according to the material safety data sheet e.g. correct gloves when handling paint, safety glass- es, overalls.
INJURY TO HANDS WHEN FALLING
When you fall it is a natural reaction to put your hands in front to lessen the impact. Avoiding falling can be reduced by:
• Ensuring worksite is clean and free of clut-
ter
• Hold onto handrails when walking up and
down stairs
• Observe the environment around you
• Avoid using a mobile phone when walking
around
INJURIES USING MACHINERY
If maintaining machinery, always inspect machinery and turn the power off. Only work on the maintenance of a machine if it is a part of your role and you have received the correct training. Always observe technical and safety data sheets.
