The Tiger ARH performed well on the most recent EX Hamel in June/July this year.
That work has now concluded and we have the Army organised in a way that we can confidently progress how we’ll re- place these major capability systems, in- cluding our Armoured Fighting Vehicles. The Boxer as the Combat Reconnaissance Vehicle will replace the Light Armoured Vehicle (LAV).
Boxer is a very highly capable plat- form and while it will be based in the armoured cavalry regiments it will also be much more connected, much more capable as a digitised, more lethal plat- form that will allow us to deliver capa- bility and effects in new ways.
WeareengagedwiththeotherBoxerus- ers within the community and are looking at how we can quickly adopt this into the Army within our own context. Land 400 Phase3isstillfinalisingtheRFTwhichis due to be released later this year.
The requirement for an Infantry Fight- ing Vehicle remains rock solid. It is a capa- bility that our army, our defence force needs in order to be able to offer the full range of military options for our government.
ADM: How urgent is the problem with the currently inadequate ship to shore connectors? How are you ad- dressing that?
BURR: We’re working very closely with Navy to make sure that we understand what modifications we can make to the LHD land- ing craft and looking at options to improve the deck strength and carrying capacity and soforthsothatthefullamphibiouscapability, includinglandforcesareabletooperatefrom theLHDasfulsomelyaspossible.
The limitations for the Abrams M1A1 tank to be embarked on the LHD Land- ing Craft are well known. We currently have options to get the tanks from ship to shore. We’ll continue to look at new ways to project our forces from the maritime domain as our joint capability evolves. That is an ongoing effort.
