BAKERY
Tiny but tough
Lesaffre Human Care has developed a stable probiotic that can survive harsh manufacturing
conditions.
A HIGHLY probiotic bacterium for immune support with proven efficacy is being manufactured by yeast and bacteria fermentation ingredients supplier Lesaffre Human Care.
The product, LifeinU Bacillus subtilis CU1 (LifeinU BSCU1), is suited to a wide range of manufacturing applications,
and is distributed exclusively by Hawkins Watts in Australia and New Zealand.
According to Hawkins Watts marketing manager
Natasha Sabatier, because it is highly stable, LifeinU
BSCU1 can survive extreme conditions such as harsh manufacturing processes, making it suited to a diverse range of food and beverage applications including cereal
bars and hot tea. LifeinU BSCU1 is also
compatible with most dietary restrictions, including gluten- free, lactose-free, Kosher,
and Halal.
“Considering the rising popularity of functional foods and beverages among consumers, who are increasingly focused on achieving wellness through diet, LifeinU BSCU1’s outstanding stability is a tremendous asset for our customers in helping them formulate end-products that will resonate with today’s demanding consumers,” Sabatier said.
LifeinU BSCU1 is made of an exclusive and patented strain of Bacillus subtilis registered as CNCM I-2745. It has been clinically proven to support the
body natural defences, especially in people with a weakened immune system, and it has also been established that daily consumption was safe and did not induce side-effects.
Beneficial effects of LifeinU BSCU1 consumption were demonstrated in a four-month clinical trial conducted in healthy seniors, in collaboration with an independent expert in gastroenterology. The findings published in the peer-reviewed Immunity & Ageing journal showed that consumption of a daily dose (20mg/day) of LifeinU BSCU1 significantly boosts natural defences by increasing sIgA concentrations in the intestine and saliva by 87 per cent and 45 per cent respectively, and reduces the frequency of upper respiratory infections by 45 per cent.
