Hello Hasbro
Hasbro expands beyond toy and games into an entertainment leader. Imogen Bailey reports on the business’ evolution and what’s ahead in 2020.
HASBRO is a business that needs no introduction. Established in 1923 the company has
grown to become one of the most recognised play and entertainment leaders in the world, boasting a strong portfolio of brands including Nerf, Magic The Gathering, My Little Pony, Transformers, Play-Doh, Monopoly, Baby Alive, Power Rangers and more.
Over the years, Hasbro has evolved
from a traditional toy and game company
to a global play and entertainment leader, developing its storytelling capabilities through investments and partnerships such as its
film labels, Allspark Pictures and Allspark Entertainment. Hasbro is able to reach kids and families everywhere they are consuming content in many forms and formats, including film, television and new media.
“In 2020, Hasbro will continue to unlock the potential of our brands and inspire consumers to engage with us across multiple touch points,” says Tony Papreck, Managing Director, Australia & New Zealand. “Storytelling is at the centre of everything
we do, and we will continue to use immersive, cross-platform storytelling to bring our beloved brands to life for kids, fans and families.”
Hasbro’s focus on entertainment and storytelling is further reaffirmed by the recently completed acquisition of eOne.
The deal will enhance Hasbro’s storytelling capabilities and accelerate Hasbro’s blueprint strategy by expanding its brand portfolio with eOne’s global preschool brands including Peppa Pig, PJ Masks and Ricky Zoom.
“We are looking forward to joining forces with eOne. Their capabilities and relationships complement the expertise and infrastructure we have built at Hasbro,” says Samantha Lomow, President, Hasbro Entertainment Brands. “In combining our businesses, including eOne’s preschool brands and immersive entertainment capabilities, we will be well positioned to unlock the full franchise value of our brands and our storytelling.”
Expect much more to come from Hasbro
in 2020. Meanwhile, Toy & Hobby Retailer got a first look at key launches to watch for this year.
