REPLACE OR REPAIR YOUR AIR COMPRESSOR? A QUICK GUIDE
Compressors
L
IKE MOST BUSINESS OWNERS,
you probably do not think about
your workshop air compressor system too often. It continues to hum away in the background, pro- viding your business with the essential compressed air your work processes need. Your service technician arrives every six or 12 months to perform preventative mainte- nance and all is perfectly well—that is un- til, as with any piece of industrial equip- ment, a problem is diagnosed, or the unit breaks down and suddenly you need to determine quickly whether it needs to be
repaired or replaced?
Repair is a viable solution for situa-
tions when:
• Your compressor has not been super-
seded by newer technology
• The compressor is relatively new or
has not done many operational hours
• Spare parts are readily available for
your brand of compressor
• You do not have the funds to purchase
a new compressor
• Your compressor is generally reliable
• The electricity consumption of your
compressor is in line with the newer
model of machine available.
But the decision is much more complex
when dealing with older com- pressors. Replacement is more of a viable option when:
• A strong business case exists
for you to update as your com-
pressor has become unreliable,
or newer technologies allow
you to make huge savings off
your energy consumption. Compressed air systems use
up to 10% of total industrial
electricity use in Australia,
making it one of the largest, if not the larg- est users of electricity in your operation.
• Spare parts are becoming increasing- ly difficult to obtain.
• Your company’s future compressed air needs outweigh the capabilities of your current unit
• Based on its age, further breakdowns and failures appear likely
• Compressed air is essential to your day to day operations of your business, with downtime costing your business considerably in terms of lost produc- tion and affecting your end product.
If you happen to face a breakdown of any of your compressor equipment, whilst it is unplanned and certainly not ideal, it pro- vides you with the opportunity to recon-
sider your compressed air requirements and can lead to massive reductions to ex- cessive energy and maintenance costs.
CAPS Australia is able to assist you in making the best decision for your busi- ness, with experienced service and re- pair technicians with model-by-model knowledge. If it is determined that a re- placement is the best option, CAPS is equipped with a full range of workshop compressed air systems that are custom- ised for the automotive industry to de- liver clean and dry air.

RELIABLE AIR FROM BROADBENT
THE BROADBENT RANGE OF SCROLL
compressors are the most efficient and reli- able air compressors on the market today, having very few moving parts, easily main- tained and boasting higher energy saving - the choice of compressor is simple.
The oil free scroll series of compres- sors are 100% oil free and require no particle removal filters. A long service interval minimises running and main- tenance costs.
Water and oil can cost thousands of dollars in lost production and down
time, affecting machinery and the end result. A poor finish caused by oil and water contamination can eventuate in reworking jobs.
The use of a refrigerated air dryer with a pressure dew point of +2deg C removes water and condensation from the air lines and prevents con- tamination.
