The HVACR Leader of the Year Award
AJ BAKER & Sons managing director, Mike Baker, is well known for his leadership in natural refrigerant solutions. To date, the company has installed 14 Transcritical CO2 applications for supermarket chains with a further four in the pipeline. In fact, AJ Baker & Sons Pty Ltd is a fourth generation family owned company based in Perth, with branches throughout Australia. The busi- ness can only be described as a great Aus- tralian success story.
Pioneer Air Conditioning founder, George Haydock, is a refrigeration mechanic who is serious about HVACR. It is this commitment and passion that has made him a successful manufacturer based in Sydney's west. A firm believer in the benefits of natural refriger- ants, especially hydrocarbons, Haydock is a HVACR pioneer. This was evident recently when he combined hydrocarbon refrigerants and solar power to take the energy efficiency of split system air conditioning units to a whole new level.
Powerchill director, Daniel Maclean, started his business just under seven years ago with a dream of eventually having two technicians working with him. He now has 16 staff and its growing 25% a year. He de- scribes his team as 'amazing' they are re- nowned for taking on the jobs that often end up in the 'too hard' basket. O'Connors mechanical services managing director, Andrew O'Connor, is an engineer with more than 30 years experience in the construction industry. His extensive project management skills has seen O'Connor lead major projects both here and overseas. He is the current president of AMCA in South Aus- tralia and is a past national president. ✺

Now in its fourth year, there have certainly been impressive winners in this category.
The very first HVACR Leader of the Year was Seeley International founder, Frank Seeley. He is certainly a well established leader in Australian manufacturing.
In 2016, the award went to Coles Supermarket's national engineering refrigeration manager, Stuart Saville.
Last year the award went to Teco Australia's Kenneth Ball, who has a career spanning more than half a century.
