Residential Air Conditioning
Fan design optimises aerodynamics
JAPANESE FAN EXPERT MASAHIRO TSUJIMOTO HAS DESCRIBED NOISY COOLING SYSTEMS AS A SOURCE OF ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION.
SPEAKING AT AN international fan confer- ence, the managing director of Ziehl-Abegg in Japan, said cooling and fresh air machines must be silent and consume less energy.
Tsujimoto said Ziehl-Abegg has more than 100 years of experience in invention and construc- tion of electric motors and fans.
“The requirements have changed during the past 100 years,” he said.
“The focus was on ventilation system perfor- mance before it shifted to energy consumption
which has been important for about 20 years. In recent years the focus has been on noise.”
Leading fan companies, he said, are work- ing hard to eliminate noise and reduce ener- gy consumption.
“The goal is to reduce the noise of air installa- tion and air conditioning systems; we have worked hard to make this happen especially through our leadership in bionic fan design,” he said.
“We have used bionic design to reduce noise by more than 50 per cent.

“We have transferred characteristics from the owl, the eagle, the humpback whale and trees into fan design, always with the aim of reducing noise and optimising the fan's aerodynamics to reduce energy consumption.” ✺
Daikin releases Super Multi with R32
STAYING TRUE TO their commitment of in- troducing a range of domestic products utilis- ing R32 over the coming year, Daikin has an- nounced the release of its Super Multi NX with R32 refrigerant as an additional range alongside the current R410A Super Multi NX - the industry’s first R32 multi split system.
The new Super Multi NX (R32) can main- tain comfort in up to five rooms and will be able to connect to Daikin’s Cora range of wall mounted split systems, bulkhead units, compact cassette and a new mid static slim- line ducted unit.
The slim-line ducted units are made to take
full advantage of current apartment building practices; at only 245mm height the indoor unit is ideal for low profile ceiling voids.
Other new features include: a new 4 port 6.8kW system; improved low load perfor- mance; priority room mode diverts capacity into the prioritised room to achieve comfort rapidly; super powerful mode which boosts airflow to high volume for 20 minutes or un- til the set temperature is reached; new mid static ducted series; and a redesigned wire- less controller.
