Offset quality on offset stocks
– from Screen digital inkjet
The Screen Truepress Jet 520HD with SC inks breaks through the digital barrier for printing on a broad range of standard offset stocks, with inks that deliver offset quality results and fast drying.
Able to print roll-to-roll, roll-to sheet stack or roll-to-finished product, with inline folding, trimming and binding; the Truepress Jet 520HD takes continuous feed inkjet up several notches from transactional/direct mail applications, to vivid broad- gamut colour on offset coated and uncoated stocks.
Applications include general commercial brochure and catalogue work, on-demand books and magazines.
The system combines Screen’s latest Truepress Jet520HD+ model with enhanced drying functions
and SC inks, to deliver high-quality output on offset coated papers. The Truepress Jet520HD+ uses a newly developed NIR additional drying unit to boost print speeds and improve quality when using coated papers.
Peter Scott, managing director of Screen GP Australia, says: “When we introduced the 520HD press a little over three years ago, the market
was surprised by its offset-like image quality. It was the first time high-speed inkjet demonstrated the capability for effectively printing jobs that approached offset quality. Development has been on-going since that time, with the SC inks and new NIR drying system being the most significant advancement.”
He continues: “SC Inks for the Truepress Jet 520HD continue
to provide the same wide colour gamut and stability as the
standard Truepress inks while also featuring our exclusive absorption technology. This advance eliminates the pre-treatment usually required for the surface of offset coated

papers when printed digitally. Being able to print directly on to the paper preserves its texture, enabling outstanding results.”
The Truepress Jet 520 range
also includes machines such as the Truepress Jet520NX at 150 mpm, and NX-EN (entry level, 75mpm),
for transactional, security and
book production. The 520NX can
be loaded with a fifth colour, for MICR, or invisible UV fluorescent inks for security printing and other solutions that make use of their highly effective anti-counterfeiting capabilities. Both the NX and NX-EN can use dye or pigmented water- based inks, with the new SC ink reserved for the HD models.
Truepress 520HD+SC ink installs now exceed 100
More than a hundred units of the Truepress Jet520HD have now been shipped worldwide. Featuring Screen’s SC inks, Truepress Jet520HD series users can maximise the exceptional quality already available on each press by printing on a wide range of paper stocks, including standard offset coated stocks, without the need for pre-treatment.

Peterborough, UK book printer Print On Demand WorldWide (PODWW) managing director Andy Cork says: “The HD press combined with the SC inks was the turning point in getting PODWW to shift from a toner-first to an inkjet-first company,”
Hubert & Co Technical Director, Jutta Reimann, adds, “It was the inks that really convinced us. Delivering that level of quality
on coated paper with no pre- treatment, without altering the appearance or the feel of the paper is a significant advantage.”
The Screen Truepress Jet520HD series are high-definition inkjet web presses with a true print resolution of 1,200 dpi and precise droplet size control at up to 150 metres per minute. The addition of Screen SC inks continues to provide the same wide colour gamut and stability as the standard Truepress inks whilst also featuring Screen’s absorption technology.
