Campbell Arnott’s director
of Packaging Asia Pacific, Liza Vernalls, will discuss how this iconic brand owner is increasingly using the printed pack to build brand engagement, with case studies of recently launched products sporting special print executions.
With the event themed ‘New Frontiers in Packaging Print’, digital print will feature quite prominently. We will hear from Jessica Simes, co-owner of Brewtopia (see this
issue, page 62) how this e-commerce drinks business is delivering an end-to-end solution for personalised beverages. Digital printing is integral to the process, and Simes, who is
also the recently appointed head
of marketing at Labelmakers, will explain how the two companies are partnering to expand the scope of their respective market offering.
AR comes to LIVE
A highlight of the day will be an interactive presentation on the
power of augmented reality to bring packaging and brands to life. Using
a well-known Aussie food brand as a case study, Bill Atta of DreemAR will show the audience how integrating AR can transform branded packaging into a channel for delivering interactive and engaging consumer experiences.
He will also take this one step further, showing how app-based AR activations can benefit brands by tracking and measuring results, boosting ROI, providing digital and physical integration and delivering richer, more valuable content.
“We have collaborated with Bill on two exciting AR projects before and I have little doubt that he will present ideas that will engage and surprise
the audience,” Hughson says. “This presentation is a must-see for brand owners, marketing managers and product developers.
“Bill will show them how to cut through a digitally noisy world and increase dwell-time with consumer packaging; how to gather analytics and insights from packaging; and how to enhance and simplify user engagement and provide measurable ROI on print.”
Hot topics addressed
You cannot talk packaging print without talking sustainability. The session will open with an update from Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation CEO Brooke Donnelly on where we’re at on the journey towards meeting the 2025 National Packaging Targets.
“I have little doubt that [Atta] will present ideas that will engage and surprise the audience.” – Lindy Hughson
We will hear the latest developments and applications from technology leaders including HP’s Daniel Blau, Kodak’s Paul Haggett, Tetra Pak’s Richard Cuthbert, and Matthews’ Mark Dingley.
Everyone loves a good Aussie success story, so we will wrap up the day with a Q&A session with two next-gen business leaders: Matt Ellis, managing director of Luminar, and Aaron Lusch, general manager of Platypus Print Packaging, who will share their respective journeys on the path to growing successful new packaging print operations.
Continuing excellence
Last year’s forum saw some 170 printers and packagers descend on the Monkey Baa for a day packed full of networking opportunities and insights on topics ranging from the struggle between digital and traditional media to consumer engagement; brand security; personalisation and versioning; printed packaging design trends; capitalising on “unboxing”; augmented reality; game-changing technologies; and the future of the packaging print market.
Following the inaugural event, Hughson said she was delighted with its success and the positive feedback she received from printers and packagers alike. “The speaker content was of a high standard, relevant and engaging” she said.
“It is great to be in a position to take the lead on creating an information- sharing and networking forum of this calibre for our packaging and printing community.”
Andrew Macaulay, CEO PIAA, appeared in a panel at the 2018 LIVE event and says the association is eager to see it continue. “This is the type of forum that allows industry sharing of great ideas and lets people challenge themselves to adapt their businesses and be exposed to ideas that will enhance their productivity,” he says.
Other peak industry associations partnering with the event include PrintNZ, Australian Institute
of Packaging, and Australian Packaging and Processing Machinery Association. With a line-up brimming with the industry’s
best and brightest, and plenty of opportunities to rub elbows and swap war stories with fellow printers and packagers, 2019’s Print21 + PKN LIVE event promises to build on the success of last year’s debut – so book your spot before you miss out. 21
Engaging: The LIVE forum will address how digital print and coding connect the dots in the packaging picture.
Donnelly will then join a panel of industry leaders who will share how their companies are making strides in implementing sustainability initiatives in their own businesses and enabling their customers to
do so too. We’ll hear from Aleks Lajovic, managing director of Impact International; Jack Malki, director of Jet Technologies; and Fred Soar, managing director of Soar Print.
Brand protection is a hot button issue for Australian brand owners, especially those exporting products to Asian markets.
At Print21 + PKN LIVE, we will take a closer look at the technology that is enabling – via the printed pack – supply chain traceability and brand authentication, while at the same time driving deeper consumer engagement.
