LCDR SIOBHAN STURDY OF ROYAL AUSTRALIAN NAVY
LCDR Siobhan Sturdy joined the RAN in 2010, having completed a BSc/BEng double degree at Monash University. After completing initial training, she joined HMAS Newcastle as an Assistant Marine Engineer Officer, earning her Certificate of Competence and, incidentally, a fast-roping qualification, and at the end of that posting she commenced submarine training. Throughout 2019 Siobhan Sturdy held the position of Marine Engineering Officer (MEO) onboard the Collins Class Submarine HMAS Sheean.
CAROLINE BROWN OF DEWC SERVICES
Caroline is an innovative electronic engineer and mathematician with a distinguished 20 year RAN career before working as an ADF contractor in partnership with DEWC Services. Caroline has a proven track record of providing exemplary electronic warfare expertise and engineering management, most recently within DEWC Services’ LCRC team representing the Commonwealth with engineering authority as the DAAR. Caroline exemplifies women’s ability to succeed in STEM careers in the ADF.
DR TERESA MAGOGA OF DEFENCE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY GROUP
Teresa currently the acting Discipline Leader – Global Ship Structural Analysis. After working in the aerospace and automotive industries for four years, Teresa joined DST Group. Over the last 9 years, she has supported the operational availability of naval ships through her research to improve through-life structural management and service life prediction. Teresa currently leads DST’s ship-structures related contributions to national and international projects, with Defence organisations, universities, industry, and regulatory bodies. She has co-authored over 30 journal papers, peer-reviewed conferences papers, and DST Group reports.
SINDHU SHANKAR OF FRAZER NASH CONSULTANCY
Sindhu is an accomplished Systems Engineer with 10 years of experience with platforms across the Defence Capability Lifecycle. She has led systems engineering activities, working both above and below the line on programs such as Land 400 Phase 2 and Air 6000 F-35 Joint Strike Fighter acquisitions. Over the past year, Sindhu spent time in Unterluss, Germany, supporting the Australian Boxer, Combat Reconnaissance Vehicle for the Land 400 Phase 2 development program, ensuring the platform design meets sovereign capability requirements.
KERRY LUNNEY OF THALES AUSTRALIA
Kerry is Country Engineering Director in Thales Australia. She is also the President of the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE), and holds the Expert Systems Engineering Professional (ESEP) qualification. Kerry has extensive experience developing and delivering large system solutions across Aerospace and Defence, ICT and Transportation in Australia, Asia and US. She is a Fellow of Engineers Australia with the status of Engineering Executive and Chartered Professional Engineer.
DONNA DUFFY OF BOEING DEFENCE AUSTRALIA
Donna has a background in psychology and its application within human systems engineering. In her role as the Principal Human Factors Specialist at BDA, Duffy works across defence acquisition programs and Phantom Works International.
Her defence aviation-related projects include HATS and E-7A Wedgetail, with her primary focus being the development of the ATS within Phantom Works International.
Within this program, Donna is finding solutions to the human systems integration impacts associated with operating and maintaining the ATS. She is assessing system usability and operators’ cognitive workload capacity while managing a number of UAVs. She has a strong interest in system design from both a physical and cognitive perspective. She is also the Design Special Interest Group Chair of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society Australia and is also heavily engaged in STEM and the development of next-generation engineers.
