PRODUCT NEWS
A NEW DETECTABLE COMBO
THERMO Fisher Scientific has created the smallest model in its line of Sentinel metal detectors, aimed at food manufacturers and food quality managers to improve productivity and maximise factory floor space.
The Sentinel 3000 multiscan metal detector is designed for metal detection-checkweighing combination systems in food productions to improve functionality and performance rather than requiring two pieces of equipment.
It mounts on the frame of Thermo Scientific VersaWeigh and Versa GP chekweighers, with a new harmonised Versa checkweight software incorporating capabilities to both operate the checkweight and metal detector from one screen.
“Food manufacturers are increasingly adopting combination systems for more economical product inspection,” says Bob Ries, lead product manager, metal detection and X-ray inspection for Thermo Fisher Scientific.
“The Sentinel 3000 metal detector enables them to use
advanced multi-frequency technology to keep consumers
safe while optimizing space.” The multi-frequency metal
detector allows users to select up to five frequencies from 50 to 1000 kHz and scan through each
frequency at a rapid rate. It also has improved
sensitivity to identify contaminants up to 30 per cent
smaller in volume than previous Thermo Scientific technologies.
ON THE ROBOTICS ROADMAP
END-OF-ARM tooling (EoAT) manufacturer for collaborative robot applications, OnRobot, has introduced two new products to help simplify automation.
The 2018 Australia
Centre for Robotics
Robotics Roadmap report
argues Australia is not
adopting robotics and
automation fast enough and
that an average productivity growth of 2.5 per cent is needed to maintain Australia’s standard of living.
OnRobot’s Digital I/O Converter Kit and Quick Changer work in combination. The Converter Kit allows OnRobot’s EoATS to work with collaborative and light industrial robot brands. The Quick Changer performs as a unified mechanical and communications interface.
“The introduction of the One-System Solution is a huge step forward for the industry and is much needed in Australia to help local manufacturers embrace automation easily,” says OnRobot APAC general manager James Taylor.
“With a speedy robot deployment process, manufacturers can reduce operational cost and reap the benefits of automation, faster.”
OnRobot is a Danish manufacturer and aims to continue developing solutions for a broader range of compatible robot arms and automation processes.

THE SPRING SOLUTION
AIRMOUNT air springs from Sydney-based producer Air Springs Supply aim to be an effective, cost-efficient and reliable solution to the issue of vibrating and intrusive machinery.
Air springs can offer up to 90 per cent of vibration isolation and operate on the principle of compressing a gas rather than deflecting a solid.
Air Springs Supply’s Firestone Airmounts are a passive isolater that can achieve a reduction in the natural frequency, and with the use of an auxiliary reservoir, the air springs can lower this frequency to further improve isolation effectiveness.
Airmount air springs are versatile and are ideal for use in several environments, including garbage compactors and waste-to-energy equipment, HVAC and refrigeration equipment, and sorters, sizers and vibrating bins.
Air Springs Supply air springs are available in individual capacities from a few dozen kilograms to 40,000kg.
RELOCATABLE AIR CIRCUALATORS
STAINLESS steel air circulators from Australian ventilation specialist Fanquip are believed to posses the highest air output of any air circulator in the Australian market.
With blade diameters available in 460, 630 and 810 millimetre sizes, Fanquip’s air circulators have a long lifespan due to the stainless steel construction for guards, motors and brackets to prevent against rust and ensure cleanliness.
Remaining components are made of inert plastic in order to eliminate any potential
contamination to the
product it is working around.
The air circulators aim to lower temperature of site and provide air movement to decrease condensation.
They are rated IP56 (for 240V) and IP69 (for 415V) hose proof, allowing the operator to make a complete wash down of the equipment at regular intervals without causing any damage to it.
Fanquip’s air circulators are easily relocatable and enable the user to reposition the product as often as necessary to where it is most effective.
