Same Great Imprints in a New Format
e live in a complex and sometimes bewildering world. So how can we understand a complicated
subject, especially when we have at our fingertips limitless “content” on every conceivable topic
under the sun? Our Internet-enabled, fake news-saturated, analysis-poor world has made the
Wproblem worse, not better, especially for students.
To make sense of the information onslaught, the ABC-CLIO and Greenwood teams of scholars, editors, and
researchers cover every aspect of our rapidly evolving world—from the latest scientific discoveries to new
takes on historical events and novel thinking about perennial topics like religion, race, gender, and human
conflict. The team works continually to put high-level scientific, political, and historical information and
research into terms that anyone can understand, regardless of their original level of familiarity with the topic.
The awards our social studies research and curriculum databases and our books have received are a
testament to our authors’ and editors’ achievement. We’re proud that the Reference and User Services
Association (RUSA) of the American Library Association designated 6 ABC-CLIO/Greenwood reference titles
as “Outstanding Reference Sources” in 2017, and that Library Journal recognized 13 of our titles as “Best
Reference Titles” of 2016. In both cases, these were many more awards than any other publisher.
As we begin the school year, ABC-CLIO brings you major new titles with fresh perspectives on key,
curriculum-centric topics:
• Women in American History: A Social, Political, and Cultural Encyclopedia and Document Collection
(Page 7);
• Islam: A Worldwide Encyclopedia (Page 103);
• The Definitive Shakespeare Companion: Overviews, Documents, and Analysis (Page 111);
• The Holocaust: An Encyclopedia and Document Collection (Page 56).
We’re also especially proud of our new series, Contemporary Debates, which has won critical acclaim and
addresses one of the great challenges of our day: how to evaluate and analyze our most important national
and international issues, from health care to global warming (Page 65).
Be sure to make it to the second part of the catalog on page 144 to browse the professional development
resources found in our Libraries Unlimited section. Libraries Unlimited supports professional success with
books authored by librarians, for librarians, that inspire and equip readers to explore new directions, acquire
new skills, and unlock the truly unlimited potential in their libraries.
We hope that these latest books and social studies research and curriculum databases from ABC-CLIO will
serve you in your efforts to provide the best resources for all of your students, and we thank you for choosing
ABC-CLIO as your source of innovative and up-to-date reference and professional development.
