16. SECURITY DEPARTMENT

1. Overview:
Security Department discharges important duties such as protection of Railway
properties, passengers and passenger belongings, ensuring Railway safety, punctual
running of trains, hassle free journey of passenger by taking action against petty
offenders through Railway Act, curbing the activities of touts who indulge in illegal
business of Railway tickets, preventing illegal transportation of contraband and
dangerous articles in trains, implementing COVID appropriate behavior in trains and
railway premises, preventing leakage of railway revenue in the way of payment in false
claim cases in untoward incidents, alerting railway administration regarding agitation
and dharna plans in advance and taking preventive steps to ensure smooth train
operation, acting as bridge between Railway administration and GRP, Local Police and
Civil administration in Law & Order related issues etc., In addition to the legitimate duties
laid down by Law and Rules, RPF also plays a very pro-active role in rescuing
missing/runaway children and women, arranging medical assistance to needy
passengers, recovering and restoring left over valuable items of passengers etc.,
