1.0 OVERVIEW
Secunderabad Division was formed on 2nd October 1966 with both broad
gauge and meter gauge systems. The meter gauge part was carved out
from Secunderabad Division to form Hyderabad division on 17.11.1977.
The Division has 1571.18 route Kilometers of track and 166 stations (including
halt & operational stations) spread over four states viz. Telangana (1116.05
KMs), Maharashtra (180.11KMs), Karnataka (222.97KMs) and Andhra Pradesh
(52.05KMs). 2420.04 TKMs of track out of which 2054.675TKMs of track is
electrified (84.90%).
During the year 2021-22 (upto Oct‘21) Division loaded 44.29 MT of originating
traffic and carried 20.45 millions of originating passengers. This constitutes
66.40% of originating loading and 37.90% of originating passengers of South
Central Railway. Coal from Singareni Collieries and WCL is the major traffic
contributing 62.60% of the total, the rest being made up of a wide basket of
commodities like cement (28.50%), food grains (3.80 %), dolomite / limestone
(raw materials to steel plant 1.00%), petroleum (0.5%), containers (1. 30%)
and other goods (2.20%).
Goods traffic is being handled at 60 sidings and 29 goods sheds spread
throughout the division. This includes 18 loading/un loading points of FCI.
Besides the above, the division serves two ICDs/Domestic Container Depots
(SNF and NPL) and 6 power generating units.
Passenger terminals at Secunderabad, Hyderabad & Lingampalli on an
average handle around 308 Mail/Express/passenger trains daily. These are
among the largest passenger terminals of the country. In addition, the
Division has the unique distinction of successfully running a commuter system
in the twin cities area in partnership with the State Government.
The Division hosts major infrastructural facilities like the Flash butt Welding
Plant at Moula-Ali, Electric Loco Sheds at Lalaguda & KZJ, Diesel Loco Shed
at KZJ and 6 mega ballast Depots, which not only serve the need of the
Division but also that of other divisions of South Central Railway.
2.0 STATES COVERED
The Division having a route km of 1571.67, serves 4 states viz., , Telangana,
Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. State-wise Break up is as
