Introducing the George Fentham Trust

George Fentham was born in Hampton-in-Arden in 1630 and went on to become a
successful businessman in Birmingham. The George Fentham Trust was established in
1698 on George Fentham’s death. He had provided in his will a sum of £20 per year to pay
for a schoolmaster, £5 for the relief of the poor and £5 for an apprentice to benefit the
residents of Hampton-in-Arden.
The Trust continues to provide support for residents of the village, including :
▪ provision of the alms houses at Hampton Green

▪ elderly support services including our weekly lunch club for older residents
▪ maintenance of green spaces around the village including the pond, woodland
and wildflower meadows
▪ maintenance of the Fentham Hall which is available for hire and hosts a number
of regular events and classes

▪ grants in support of local organisations including the pre-school and the sports
club
▪ educational grants given each year to village residents in higher education

▪ grants to George Fentham school including annual funding, currently amounting
to £80,000 and a contribution to any capital expenditure

The Trust may be able to provide financial and/or practical support to any village resident
who finds themselves in hardship. Applications for assistance must be made in writing and
