and supplies are to be used for legitimate, job-related purposes and are not for private use. All
equipment must be maintained in good working order and immediately returned to APUS upon request.
If the telecommuting employee uses his/her own equipment, APUS shall not be responsible for any
damage to the employee's property that may result from the telecommuting relationship. APUS shall
also not be responsible for any costs related to such equipment unless approved in advance for
reimbursement.
Safety
The telecommuting employee must maintain the work site and designated work location in a safe
condition. APUS assumes no liability for injuries to the telecommuting employee that occurs outside of
the work site and designated work location, or that occur outside of designated work hours.
Family Obligations
Telecommuting is not to be viewed or used as a substitute for family care arrangements. If child
dependents or minors are present at the work site during designated work hours, there should be a
designated adult (other than the telecommuting employee) to provide primary care. APUS expects the
telecommuting employee to make appropriate family care arrangements such that family care does not
interfere with work obligations. These arrangements should be flexible in the case that the employee is
called into the office with limited notice.
Other Employment or Activities
The telecommuting employee is prohibited from accepting or engaging in other (i.e. non-APUS)
employment or activities at the work site during designated work hours.
Confidentiality of Information
The telecommuting employee shall take reasonable precautions to ensure the safety and protection of
APUS information. In addition to following all related APUS policies and procedures, these precautions
may include the following:
• Locking equipment and documents in file cabinets/desk after work hours
• Storing equipment and documents out of plain view
• Leaving equipment in designated work location unless necessary to remove
• Locking or otherwise limiting access to the designated work area/room
Informing family members, roommates, shared-space individuals and/or friends that company
related equipment and information is "off limits"
APUS makes no representations regarding the tax implications of the telecommuting arrangement.
Telecommuting employees are responsible for their own tax obligations as related to the telecommuting
arrangement. Telecommuting employees are encouraged to consult with a tax professional for
information on any related implications.
Time Off Work
APUS's time off from work policy is designed to provide paid time off for such things as vacations,
personal days, sickness, medical and dental care, family emergencies, and other personal reasons.
Full-Time employees accrue time off for each hour of regular pay on a bi-weekly basis. The rate of
accrual is based on completed years of employment measured from the first day of work.
