prof. dr. mahfud md, s.h., s.u. m. i. p was
born on 13 may 1957 in sampang, east java. the
name md was taken from the abbreviation of his
father's name; mahmodin became md. his
parents’ names are mahmodin and siti khadijah.
mahfud md has three children, mohammad
ikhwan zein, vina amalia and royhan akbar, from
his wife, zaizatun nihayati. mahfud married his
wife on october 2, 1982, in semboro, jember, east java. zaizatun nihayati was his classmate in
the law faculty at the indonesian islamic university in yogyakarta in 1982. previously he was
a member of the people’s representative council and minister of defence in the national unity
cabinet. he earned his doctorate in 1993 from gadjah mada university. before being appointed
minister, he was a lecturer and professor of constitutional law at the indonesian islamic
university, yogyakarta. when he was young, he was also active as an activist for the islamic
students’ association and various organizations. apart from the unique position and education
possessed by mahfud md, he also has multiple works, such as books and so on.
