One by one, they came to the microphone telling tales that came from their hearts
        in the most literally sense.
In October, Martin Memorial held a celebration to commemorate the first anniver-
sary of the Frances Langford Heart Center. Approximately 200 heart patients, physi-
cians and supporters turned out to listen to patient testimonials, enjoy a dancing
exhibition featuring a former heart patient and to mark an important milestone for
        the entire community. UM
“A few days ago, I turned 29,” said Tiffany Bensley, who was rushed to the Frances
Langford Heart Center in July 2007 suffering from a heart attack. “It was a birthday
I almost didn’t get to celebrate. I’m very lucky to have been here in the right place at
the right time. If the Frances Langford Heart Center wasn’t here, I might not have
made it long enough to be transferred to another hospital.”
Bernhard Weyhausen was one of the first 13 patients to have open-heart surgery at
the heart center. Now, he told the gathered crowd, “Thirteen has been one of mine
and my wife’s lucky numbers.” MBA
The Frances Langford Heart Center, named for the late actress and singer whose
estate provided a $5 million gift to help build the facility, officially opened its doors
        on Aug. 1, 2006.
“It is extremely gratifying to see so many people whose lives have been touched by
the heart center,” said Janice Meadows, assistant vice president for the Frances
Langford Heart Center. “Our goal is to create the most comprehensive heart center on
