10. The Adverb






               An adverb     is a word that qualifies or modifies a verb, an adjective or another

          adverb.

               Examples :      (a) Anubhav walked slowly            to the music room.


                                (b) The Delhi zoo is quite       nice.

                                (c) We are already       late for the movie.

               There are four kinds of adverbs and here you can see the basic kinds of adverbs.


          1.  Adverbs  of  Manner  :  Adverbs  of  manner  are  placed  after  the  verbs  they
               describe.


               Examples :      (a) He speaks slowly       .

                                (b) They helped us cheerfully         .

                                (c) James Bond drives his car fast         .


          2.  Adverbs of Place : Adverbs of place tell us when or at what time an action takes
               place.


               Examples :      (a) Please sit here     .

                                (b) They looked everywhere           .

                                (c) Two cars were parked outside           .

          3.  Adverbs  of  Time  :  Adverbs  of  time  tell  us  something  about  the  time  that

               something happens. Adverbs of time mainly modify verbs.

               They can answer the question “when”?


               Examples :      (a) He came yesterday         .

                                (b) I want it now    .
