Mumbai rains: Giant hoarding collapses in Ghatkopar

       amid dust storm

A massive hoarding collapsed in Mumbai's
Ghatkopar amid strong winds and dust storm that
struck the city early Monday evening, killing
fourteen people and injuring at least 76.

"Some people are feared trapped under the
hoarding and a search and rescue operation is
       underway," a civic body said.

       Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar
said stringent action will be taken against those
responsible for the hoarding collapse. A case was
registered against Bhavesh Bhinde, the owner of
M/s Ego Media Private Limited and others for culpable homicide not amounting to murder and other
relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code at Pant Nagar police station, another official said.
Heavy rain wreaks havoc in Bengaluru, over 1,000 trees

       fall in 7 days

With over 1,000 trees in Bengaluru crashing between May 6 and
12 in heavy rain and gusty winds and the civic agency not fully
equipped to instantly clear the remains, BBMP is planning to sell
the fallen branches at the very site without trucking them off to a
       forest depot.
The key objective behind this exercise is to prevent tree branches
from blocking the road or shrinking carriageways and pavements.
Hence, BBMP forest wing officials have sought permission from
chief commissioner Tushar Giri Nath to allow them to sell trunks,
branches and stumps of the fallen trees through public auction
       from the spot.
BBMP officials said 39 teams acted swiftly after receiving
complaints about tree falls in the first two weeks of May and cut
down the trunks and branches of the fallen trees to clear the roads and pavements for traffic and people.
