channel that connects the roots to vessels that connect the leaves to

the leaves through the stem and the all the parts of the plant including
                             branches. roots.

                  9. Write the functions of blood.
                Ans. Functions of the blood

                      • Blood carries oxygen to all parts of the body and brings carbon dioxide to the

                            lungs.
                      • It carries hormones from the organs, where they are secreted to the parts of

the body where they have to act.

                      • The digested food from the intestine is carried to all parts of the body.
                      • Waste material is carried to the kidneys, which then expels the waste in the

                            form of urine.

                      • In case of a cut on any part of the body, clotting of blood takes place. This

prevents the body from losing blood.
                      • Blood also helps in regulating the temperature of the body.

                      • The white blood cells and antibodies in the blood protect the body from

                            diseases.
                  10. Write a note on dialysis.

Ans. Dialysis : Sometimes, the kidneys may stop functioning in a human body due to an

injury or an infection. In such patients, waste keeps accumulating in the body. This
waste if unremoved may put the patient’s life in danger. Dialysis is an artificial way of

carrying out this process. It also substitutes the natural work of kidneys and is also

known as Renal Replacement Therapy (RRT). The blood circulates outside the body.
It goes through a machine with special filters. The blood comes out of the patient

through a flexible tube known as a catheter. The tube is inserted into the vein. The

filters work like kidneys and remove the waste products from the blood. The filtered
blood then returns to the patient through another catheter. It is usually done three

times a week, for 3 to 4 hours a day, depending on how well the kidneys work.
