2. What is wind?

Ans. Wind is the movement of air from an area of high pressure to an area of low pressure.

                  3. Why do we fill air into the tyres of a bicycle?
Ans. We fill air into the tyres of a bicycle to reduce friction and make the ride smoother

                       and easier.
                  4. What do tornadoes look like?

Ans. Tornadoes look like violent, spinning columns of air extending from a thunderstorm

to the ground, often appearing as a funnel-shaped cloud.
                  5. How can cyclones be predicted?

Ans. Cyclones can be predicted using satellite imagery, weather radars, and computer
models that analyze atmospheric conditions and wind patterns.

                  6. Which coastline is more prone to cyclonic storms?

Ans. The eastern coastline of India, particularly the coasts of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and
West Bengal, is more prone to cyclonic storms.

          F. Short-answer questions

                  1. What is a cyclone?
Ans. A cyclone is a large-scale air mass that rotates around a strong center of low

atmospheric pressure. It is characterized by strong winds and heavy rain and can

cause significant damage to life and property.
                  2. What are the precautions to be taken during a tornado?

Ans. We should follow the given precautions during a tornado:
                      • Seek shelter in a sturdy building, preferably in a basement or an interior room

                            on the lowest floor.

                      • Stay away from windows and doors.
                      • Use heavy furniture or mattresses to protect yourself from debris.

                      • Listen to weather updates and follow the instructions from authorities.
                  3. Why does smoke always rise up?

Ans. Smoke always rises up because it is made up of hot air and tiny particles that are less

dense than the cooler air around it. When something burns, it produces hot gases
that are lighter than the surrounding air. These hot gases rise because they are less

dense and buoyant compared to the cooler, denser air. As the smoke cools down, it

may eventually spread out and move horizontally.
                  4. What are monsoon winds?

Ans. Monsoon winds are seasonal winds that change direction between summer and
