7. What is diarrhoea? How can you prepare ORS to treat the patient?

Ans. Diarrhoea is a condition in which a person has frequent, loose or watery bowel
movements. It can be caused by various factors, including infections, food intolerances

and certain medications. It can lead to dehydration, which means the body loses

more fluids than it takes in.

Preparing ORS to treat diarrhoea:
Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) is a simple, effective treatment for dehydration

caused by diarrhoea. ORS helps to replenish lost fluids from the body.

It can be prepared by dissolving 6 teaspoons of sugar, half teaspoon of salt in 1 litre of

boiled, cooled water. The solution should not be too salty or too sweet. Administer
the solution by giving small sips frequently, especially to children and adults suffering

from dehydration.
