Some plants eat insects too! Read the clues and name these carnivorous plants. Pick your
answer from the ‘Help Box’ :
1. The leaves of this plant are covered with specialised
hairs that secrete a sugary liquid. They move those
hairs to trap prey. The insects get stuck to the sugary
liquid and are soon digested.
2. This water plant has floating, hairy structures which act
as traps or bladders. The trap door opens as soon as an
insect or an animal touches a certain part of the hair on
the outside edges and immediately sucks it inside.
3. This plant looks like a striking cobra. It's forked leaves
look like a serpent's fangs. it attracts insects with a
sweet smell and then captures and kills them.
4. The leaves of this plant look like long tubes. Insects are
attracted to the sweet liquid produced within these
tubes, but once they are inside, they are trapped!
5. The leaves of this plant are like traps. Each leaf has
blades along the middle, dividing it into two lobes,
which close suddenly when an insect sits on it. During
digestion, the leaves produce a red substance which
make them appear red. The leaf reopens after the
insect is digested. Box
