6. Discover and master new platforms.
Every company is pouring content into blogs, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
But there are literally hundreds of other viable and popular platforms to explore
as less-crowded niche distribution options. Here are a few you might be
overlooking:
Quora: Founded by ex-Facebook executives, this site is determined to
answer every question. Conduct a site search for topics relevant to your
business and you’re certain to find questions to weigh-in on.
LinkedIn: Of course LinkedIn is familiar as a business networking site, but
it’s also one of the largest business publishing sites in the world. It’s an
excellent place to distribute existing content, especially if you’re B2B.
StumbleUpon: The unique value proposition of this site is its randomness.
People “stumble” for content submitted by users. If people upvote and like
the content, it’s more likely to show up in the random streams. If content
gets “hot” on StumbleUpon, it can ignite very quickly!
Pinterest: Many content creators claim there’s no better way to ignite
content than through a “pin” on Pinterest. All you need is an attractive
graphic that links back to your original content. Even industrial companies
like General Electric have been using this strategy to connect to new
audiences.
Quibb: This network emerged in 2013 as a promising platform to share
content into specific industry verticals.
Reddit: Reddit is an enormous content community boasting more than 100
million unique monthly visitors. The platform’s key innovation is its voting
system. Anything posted there—pictures, questions, comments—can be
“upvoted” or “downvoted” by its users. Stuff that gets the most positive
votes gets moved to the top of the “best posts” or list of comments. Hitting
the front page of the “best posts” list creates a loop where its prominence on
the site earns more votes … and virality. Reddit is a home to passionate
people who are willing to spend 20–30 minutes researching and writing a
reply in return for a mere thank you. But tread carefully: There are very
strict rules about promotional content! Reddit can also be a very rich source
of content ideas.
7. Consider micro sites.
When researching possible new distribution channels, don’t just look at the
large, noisy places. Sometimes finding a niche channel with only 50 subscribers
